History of ownership/residents and useThe Topographical History of Surrey (1842) describes Clarence Lodge as ‘a handsome seat on the Green’ and records Richard Torin as resident. He also owned Englefield Lodge. Torin was born in London but spent much of his life in India working for the East India Company as did at least one of his sons. He died in Englefield Green in 1845 aged 80.

In the early twentieth century Clarence Lodge came to be occupied by a Mr Lawrence Bentley. In 1931 some estate adjoining the property was sold at auction and in 1834, on Bentley’s death, the house itself was sold.
