History of ownership/residents and use | James and Hannah Knowles occupied the cottage in the 1790s. After James Knowles death in 1809 Hannah and her two unmarried daughters remained at Englefield Green for at least five years. Records show that Hannah owned and rented out several local properties. James and Hannah’s second daughter, Cecilia, a little known Victorian writer, inherited St Agnes Cottage from her mother in 1840 although it doesn’t appear she lived there at this stage but rented it out. |
Location’s present status | The house pictured was demolished in the late nineteenth century. The Current property is two semi-detached cottages. |
