History of ownership/residents and use | The view depicted is Egham High Street looking west with the sign of the Kings Head Inn and publican, John Dore, in the foreground. Elizabeth Burton is recorded as Innholder at the Kings Head in 1790. She is a Licensed Victualler in Egham from 1785-1793 at least, but may not always have been at the Kings Head. John Dore was publican in 1822 and up until 1825 when William Woodbridge is recorded as Innkeeper. The pub changed hands many times. By 1903 J. S. Burrows was the licensee and the pub is described in the Petty Sessions as 32 yards from Hop Blossom, 140 yards from Catherine Wheel, with two rooms and stabling for four horses. It was still standing in 1955, but was demolished either in the late 1950s or early 1960s to make way for the Arndale shopping arcade which still stands. |
Location’s present status | Currently part of The Precinct, a 1960s arcade of shops |
